Project Aeropa launched
From July 2011 onwards, the VMM with its partners ATMO and DREAL tfrom Nord-Pas-de-Calais starts a transnational monitoring programme into the sources of dioxin and PCB contamination in the border region in Menen. This European inter-regional project was named AEROPA.
VMM monitors in the region of the border town for years Menin high concentrations of dioxins and PCBs in dust falling. In 2008 and 2010 the northern French counterparts studies showed that pollution does not stop at the border. Not only in Menen, but also in Halluin, and Bousbecque Roncq, just over the border with France, were too high concentrations of dioxin and PCBs are being measured. Despite the many campaigns fact-based evidence about the sources of this pollution was difficult to find.
To resolve this uncertainty, the VMM founded together with French partners and DREAL ATMO Nord - Pas de Calais-AEROPA the project within the framework of the Interreg IV A France-Wallonie-Vlaanderen.
With this project, the partners, are cross mapping the sources of dioxin and PCB contamination
The VMM organized with the French partners on June 28 an informattive meeting for all stakeholders in Halluin.
