C5a - Flood risk management
The C5a project combines the outcomes of seven ongoing Interreg projects in the North Sea Region to deliver a cloud-to-coast approach to the management of flood risk. Within the C5a project, the Flanders Environment Agency (VMM) is working on an integrated approach for the Zwin area which focuses on establishing an optimal balance between nature, agriculture and housing.

CATCH helps Herentals defend itself against climate change
CATCH (water sensitive Cities, the Answer To CHallenges of extreme weather events) focuses on the specific needs of midsize cities to adapt to climate change. Within the CATCH method, the Flanders Environment Agency (VMM) is working on a pilot project along the Kleine Nete river in Herentals.

Clean water for the Dijle and the Senne thanks to Belini
The water quality of our watercourses has improved significantly in recent years. However, further efforts remain necessary. That is why the VMM participates in the European LIFE Belini project to improve the water quality in the Senne, Dijle and Demer basin.

Climate-robust design: toward a Weerbaar Dommelland
Belgian and Dutch organisations are joining forces for a resilient Dommelland (Weerbaar Dommelland). Flanders Environment Agency (VMM), the Dommel Water Board, the municipality of Eindhoven, the Museum Eindhoven foundation, the province of North Brabant, the city of Peer, the municipality of Pelt and the municipality of Valkenswaard are working together across borders in order to create a climate-robust and resilient water system in the Dommel Valley.

Publication Composition and source apportionment of PM10
This report describes a 14-month measurement campaign of the composition of particle matter (PM10) at five monitoring sites and a mobile station (trailer) in NW Europe. The objective was to establish a link between the composition of PM10 and air pollution sources and relate this composition to toxicological effects.

Connected River creates more accessible waterways
Within the Connected River project, Flanders Environment Agency (VMM), together with its partners, is investigating the liveability, safety and accessibility of watercourses and waterfronts. VMM is aiming to develop new and better digital solutions for stakeholder management within the Kleine Nete pilot project and to extend these solutions to other areas.

Copernicus: Europe’s revolutionary Earth observation
Knowledge about the environment is today of fundamental importance. The European Copernicus programme provides information on how our planet is changing. VMM is working together with the European Environment Agency to manage the in situ components (such as ground stations) of Copernicus.

Publication Developing a common approach to air quality and health information and investigating if providing SMS information and living advice to vulnerable people encourages behavioural change.
Joaquin has undertaken several actions regarding people sensitive to air pollution. This report brings all actions together and explains the process undertaken (e.g. focus groups), the information packs developed and air quality indicators currently available.

DROP is a transnational project and integrates knowledge from science, policy and practice. The project is implemented through collaboration between six regional water authorities (practice partners) and five knowledge institutes (knowledge partners).
