Water
VMM starts from an integrated vision concerning water. By providing space for water and by developing flood forecasting we aim to limit the damage caused by flooding as much as possible. VMM ensures that the policy on waste water treatment and sewerage contributes to achieving good surface water quality.
VMM measures and controls the quantity and the quality of surface water, groundwater and sediments and reports about the results. VMM also manages the large unnavigable Flemish waterways and strives for their ecological recovery.
Consultation and planning of the water management in the river basin districts takes place within international river commissions.
VMM coordinates the integrated water policy. We monitor the condition of the water systems, and develop policy instruments to achieve environmental targets for water.
